“I realized that the TV really doesn’t do it justice” – When Simone Biles’ husband Jonathan Owens reflected on watching wife perform

Simone Biles’ husband, Jonathan Owens, once expressed his amazement after watching her compete live for the first time. The couple, who got married in April 2023, shared a special moment this year when Owens supported Biles during her third Olympic appearance in Paris.

Owens first witnessed Biles’ extraordinary talent at the 2021 US Gymnastics Championships in Fort Worth, Texas, where she claimed her seventh national all-around title. Reflecting on the experience, Owens was in awe of her high-flying routines, admitting that television doesn’t capture the full extent of her abilities. He remarked, “It’s so amazing to watch. When I saw her for the first time, I realized that the TV really doesn’t do it justice. When she goes out there and does it, it looks so effortless.”

The two athletes first connected in 2020 through the dating app Raya, with Biles initiating their conversation. Their relationship blossomed during the COVID-19 pandemic as both had a break from their demanding careers. After dating for two years, they got engaged in February 2022 before tying the knot in April 2023.

During the 2024 Paris Olympics, Owens took a five-day break from his pre-season training with the Chicago Bears to support Biles. She delivered an outstanding performance, winning three gold medals and a silver, becoming the most decorated Olympic gymnast in US history by surpassing Shannon Miller.

In a recent interview with Olympics.com, Biles shared insights into her dynamic with Owens. Despite both being professional athletes, their competitive natures differ. While Owens is highly competitive, especially when playing video games or cards, Biles takes a more relaxed approach. She explained, “It is so much fun having two professional athletes, and people think that we would, like, compete so much. He’s competitive. I’m not competitive. If we’re playing a video game or whatever or cards, I think that’s so much fun, and I don’t care if I win or lose.”

Biles added that Owens’ competitiveness is a strength that has contributed to his success on the football field. Following the Paris Olympics, Owens joined Biles on her Gold Over America Tour, showing his unwavering support for her accomplishments.
