Anders Limpar, the former Swedish midfielder who played for Arsenal between 1990 and 1994, has advised Viktor Gyokeres to snub Manchester United and choose Arsenal instead. Limpar, who considers himself a mentor to the 26-year-old forward, believes Gyokeres would be a great fit for Mikel Arteta’s team amidst growing interest from several top clubs across Europe.
Gyokeres has been in outstanding form this season at Sporting Lisbon under coach Ruben Amorim, and his recent performance for Sweden, where he scored four goals in a UEFA Nations League win over Azerbaijan, has further increased his stock.
Limpar praised Gyokeres’ relentless work ethic, describing him as a forward who works tirelessly for the team. He noted that even when the game isn’t going his way, Gyokeres keeps working hard by making difficult runs to get into the match. According to Limpar, unlike some top forwards who conserve energy when things aren’t going well, Gyokeres never takes it easy and always gives his best effort.
Limpar also believes that Gyokeres would have no trouble adjusting to the Premier League, pointing out that he has already proven himself in England’s Championship with Coventry City before moving to Lisbon. He highlighted that Gyokeres has the ability to score against top-tier teams, referencing his hat-trick against Manchester City during his time at Sporting Lisbon. Limpar is confident that Gyokeres is ready to take the next step in his career by playing in the Premier League and has the luxury of choosing which club he wants to join.
In Limpar’s view, Arsenal would be the ideal destination for Gyokeres, and he is certain that the forward would reach out to him if a move to the Gunners were to materialize.
