Dubois warns Joshua ahead of rematch

Daniel Dubois, the IBF world heavyweight boxing champion, has expressed his readiness for a rematch against former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. Dubois, in an interview with BoxNation, stated that he was prepared to prove to the world that he is the king. He also mentioned that Joshua may have lingering doubts or external pressure, but from his side, he is fully ready for the fight.

In addition to his desire to face Joshua, Dubois is also looking to avenge his loss to Oleksandr Usyk, should Usyk beat Tyson Fury in their upcoming rematch in December. Dubois considers his defeat to Usyk as “unfinished business” and wants a chance to settle the score, eyeing a unification fight, which he believes would be a significant event.

Joshua’s defeat to Dubois last month shocked the boxing world. The match, held at Wembley Stadium, saw Joshua knocked down multiple times before a decisive right-hand blow in Round 5 resulted in his fourth career loss. Following this, many questioned Joshua’s future in the sport, though he quickly dispelled those doubts, vowing to continue his career. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, confirmed that a rematch between Joshua and Dubois is planned for the Middle East as part of the Riyadh Season, a sports and entertainment festival running from October to March. A tentative date for the bout has been set for February.

Dubois also reflected on his fight with Usyk in August 2023, where he believed he had delivered a legal body shot that sent the Ukrainian to the canvas. However, the referee ruled it as a low blow, and Usyk went on to win by a stoppage in the ninth round.

Joshua, for his part, is looking to get back to his winning ways and regain his world champion status in a potential rematch with Dubois. Joshua recently claimed that he had “ruined” an unnamed heavyweight boxer with a single punch, suggesting he still has the power to dominate in the division.
