Scottie Scheffler’s No. 1 Tip to Win $62M, Golf, and More in a PGA Tour Season

In the world of sports, athletes often receive much of the spotlight, but their success is often deeply rooted in the guidance of their coaches. This is certainly true for World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler, who holds his coach Randy Smith in the highest regard. Scheffler often praises Smith for his exceptional techniques, crediting him for much of his success.

In a recent interview on *Golf’s Subpar*, Scheffler spoke about how much Smith has impacted his game, calling him a genius when it comes to understanding the golf swing. According to Scheffler, one of Smith’s unique abilities is knowing exactly what a golfer is doing with their game, even without being told. To demonstrate Smith’s skill, Scheffler shared an example from just before the President’s Cup. He made a small change to his swing but didn’t reveal what it was to Smith. After watching Scheffler hit just five balls, Smith correctly identified the tweak. Scheffler recalled, “I remember telling Randy, ‘Hey, I’m trying something here, but I’m not going to tell you what it is. I want to see if you can figure it out.’ And he watched me hit like five balls, and then he pointed out exactly what I was doing.”

Smith’s expertise isn’t just theoretical—his adjustments have led to real success for Scheffler on the course. During the 2024 Masters, Scheffler was struggling with his swing, but Smith offered a simple solution: adjust the grip. This change helped Scheffler win the tournament, earning a $3.6 million prize. Smith’s influence extended beyond individual tournaments as well, helping Team USA win the 2024 Presidents Cup and contributing to Scheffler’s impressive $62.3 million in season earnings.

What many may not know is that Scheffler and Smith have a long history together. Their partnership began when Scheffler was a child, and Smith has been coaching him ever since. According to Scheffler, Smith taught him everything he knows about golf. More than just technical knowledge, Smith helped foster Scheffler’s love for the game, ensuring that golf was always fun and not just a task. Scheffler acknowledged that Smith inspired him from a young age, helping shape his career from the very beginning.

The bond between Scheffler and Smith highlights how important a great coach can be in an athlete’s journey. While raw talent is essential, the right guidance can elevate that talent to new heights. This partnership shows that behind every great athlete, there’s often a coach who has played an integral role in their success.
