Coco Gauff confirms “only one tournament left” for the season after Wuhan Open 2024 loss

Coco Gauff recently announced that the WTA Finals in Riyadh will be her final tournament of the year after her defeat in the semifinals of the 2024 Wuhan Open. Despite the loss, Gauff had a strong showing during the Chinese swing, winning the China Open prior to her exit in Wuhan. At the Wuhan Open, the 20-year-old American player reached the semifinals after defeating Viktoriya Tomova, Marta Kostyuk, and Magda Linette. However, she was unable to advance to the final, losing to Aryna Sabalenka in a three-set match (1-6, 6-4, 6-4).

Following her defeat, Gauff shared a photo on her Instagram story, expressing her gratitude for the warm support she received in China. She mentioned that the WTA Finals in Riyadh would be her last event of the season.

Before her Wuhan Open performance, Gauff had a remarkable run at the China Open, where she won the title by defeating Karolina Muchova in the final with a commanding 6-1, 6-3 scoreline.

After the Wuhan Open match, Sabalenka commented on Gauff’s serving struggles, empathizing with her challenges and expressing confidence that Gauff would overcome them. Gauff, however, remained positive, downplaying the serving issue and focusing on the overall success of her recent matches, stating that she had already found a solution but had little time to implement it.

Gauff’s 2024 season has been highlighted by multiple titles, including the ASB Classic and the French Open women’s doubles, bringing her career total to eight singles titles.
