The MLB World Series is a high-stakes dream, and Juan Soto, who is aiming for his second title with the New York Yankees, is in the spotlight. Given the Yankees’ strong performance this season, Soto could very well achieve his goal. However, he’s not the only one chasing that dream. The Toronto Blue Jays, who share a similar ambition, are also reportedly interested in signing Soto as a free agent.
The Blue Jays, despite a disappointing 2024 campaign where they finished last in the AL East, are eager to improve and see Soto as a potential key to their future success. Soto, currently in a one-year, $31 million contract with the Yankees, has been performing at an impressive level, with a .288 average, 41 home runs, and a .989 OPS, making him highly sought after by multiple teams.
According to reports, Soto’s friend, who is also an agent, revealed that the Blue Jays are likely to make a significant offer for the star outfielder. They believe Soto could play a similar role for them as Aaron Judge does for the Yankees, potentially forming a powerful duo with Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Despite the Jays’ struggles this season, Guerrero Jr. had an exceptional performance, hitting .323 with 103 RBIs and 30 home runs. While he may not mirror Judge, Guerrero could provide a strong partnership with Soto if the latter joins Toronto. With reports suggesting Soto could earn up to $500 million in his next contract, the Blue Jays, along with other teams, are preparing to offer him a substantial deal.
While the Yankees have made it to the playoffs in recent years, their financial considerations under Hal Steinbrenner could lead them to cut payroll, possibly allowing Soto to explore other options. The Blue Jays, in addition to strengthening their team, may also seek to weaken their rivals by poaching Soto.
