Forced to Quit Gymnastics, Simone Biles’ Sister Adria Has Gymnastics Community Proud: ‘Such a Lovely Soul’

Being the younger sister of Simone Biles, widely regarded as the greatest gymnast of all time, has been both inspiring and challenging for Adria Biles. The immense pressure of living in Simone’s shadow took a toll on Adria, leading her to step away from gymnastics in 2016. Simone recalled how difficult it was for Adria, especially when people would comment that it wasn’t fair for her to compete because her sister always won. This ultimately led Adria to quit the sport and focus on dental assisting during high school.

However, Adria’s love for gymnastics never truly disappeared. A few years later, she found her way back to the sport, this time as a coach. She now works at the World Champions Centre (WCC), a gym owned by her parents, Ronald and Nellie Biles. Adria has embraced her new role, coaching young gymnasts and helping shape the next generation of athletes.

In an Instagram story shared on October 8th, Adria posted a collage of pictures from a recent competition, where she was seen coaching kids. Dressed in a red shirt and sporting space buns, she was shown high-fiving and cheering on her gymnasts as they performed their routines. She expressed how proud she was of her students, who had been competing every weekend since September, and shared her love for coaching, calling her students “her babies.”

Her coaching journey has gained attention from fans, with many rallying behind her on social media platforms like Reddit. Fans expressed their happiness for Adria, understanding the struggles she faced in stepping away from gymnastics due to the pressure of being constantly compared to Simone. Despite no longer competing, Adria has found her passion for the sport through coaching and has also pursued her love for dance. She even became a member of the professional dance team for the Houston Astros, the Shooting Stars, in 2022.

Adria’s role at WCC goes beyond coaching; she also works at the front desk, interacting with gym members and creating a positive atmosphere for her students. Fans praised her for fostering a healthy and supportive environment, which contrasts with some of the troubling histories associated with high-profile gymnastics coaches. Adria’s genuine bond with her students, as seen in her Instagram stories, reflects her dedication to creating a nurturing space for young gymnasts.

While Simone continues to dominate in competitions, Adria is playing a crucial role in developing the next generation of gymnasts. Her coaching work at WCC is helping young athletes reach their potential, and her mentorship, alongside the efforts of gymnasts like Simone, Jordan Chiles, and Joscelyn Roberson, is essential for the future success of Team USA in gymnastics. Through coaching, Adria has found a rewarding path that keeps her connected to the sport she loves while helping others achieve their dreams.
