Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz pays Cristiano Ronaldo iconic ‘SIUUU’ tribute following win in Shanghai Masters

Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz paid tribute to football legend Cristiano Ronaldo after his victory at the Shanghai Masters. Alcaraz, currently ranked World No. 2, advanced to the Round of 16 with a 7-6(5), 6-3 win over China’s Wu Yibing on October 6. After the match, Alcaraz signed one of the courtside cameras, writing his initials followed by Ronaldo’s famous ‘Siuuu’ celebration, referencing the iconic move of the Portuguese footballer.

Cristiano Ronaldo, renowned globally for his achievements on and off the field, has inspired many fans and athletes alike with his signature celebration. The ‘Siuuu’ move, popular among his supporters, symbolizes moments of triumph. Alcaraz’s tribute indicates his admiration for Ronaldo, who has won five Ballon d’Or awards throughout his career.

Ronaldo explained the origin of the ‘Siuuu’ celebration in a 2019 interview. He shared that it began during his time at Real Madrid, where players would shout ‘si’ (which means ‘yes’ in Spanish) after victories. The celebration gained popularity during a match against Chelsea in 2013 in the USA, where Ronaldo instinctively performed the move after scoring a goal. Over time, fans associated the celebration with him, and Ronaldo embraced it as part of his identity, continuing to perform it regularly.

Beyond his celebration, Ronaldo’s influence extends beyond football. With a massive global fan base across various social media platforms, he remains one of the most followed athletes.

On the field, Ronaldo is preparing to lead Portugal in their UEFA Nations League matches against Poland and Scotland on October 13 and 15. Last month, he scored in both of Portugal’s 2-1 victories over Croatia and Scotland. His goal against Croatia marked his 900th for club and country, while he increased his tally to 905 goals overall after those matches. He will aim to add more to his record in the upcoming fixtures.
