Mourning Their Coach, Noah Lyles’ Mother Revealed How Mentor Profoundly Shaped Her Sons’ Track and Field Career: ‘Did So Much’

At times, everyone needs a helping hand, and Keisha Caine, the mother of Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles, knows this all too well. Despite her desire to handle things on her own, Caine is grateful for the support she received during challenging moments in her life. She has faced numerous struggles but was fortunate enough to have others lend a hand when she needed it most.

Track and field fans are familiar with the difficult journey that Caine and her sons, Noah and Josephus, have endured to reach their current success. Caine, a Seton Hall alum, has previously shared that she and her sons often had little money to sustain themselves. Although their circumstances have improved, Caine remains appreciative of those who helped the family during their tough times.

In an episode of the Got It From My Momma podcast on October 6, Caine spoke about the blessings she and her sons have experienced. She reflected on the challenges she faced while trying to support her sons’ dreams of becoming professional track athletes, all while dealing with issues in her personal life. During this difficult period, an unexpected person stepped in to help—one of her sons’ high school coaches. “One of their high school coaches would actually take them to practice for me,” Caine shared.

She explained how her demanding work schedule often prevented her from attending Noah and Josephus’ practices, which was painful for her as a mother. However, she took comfort in knowing their coach was there to keep them focused on their athletic goals. “When I couldn’t be there physically, their high school coach did so much,” she said, acknowledging the significant role the coach played in their lives. Sadly, Caine also revealed that this individual recently passed away.
