“Took a Risk”: Simone Biles Reveals Young Audiences’ Reaction to Men’s Gymnasts’ Role on Her Gold Over America Tour

Simone Biles took a bold step when she decided to invite her male teammates from the U.S. gymnastics team to join her on the Gold Over America Tour (GOAT). The pop-styled gymnastics show, returning after a three-year hiatus, has generated a lot of excitement in the gymnastics community, and so far, it has been nothing short of spectacular. Biles, the most decorated gymnast in U.S. history, believes that bringing along athletes like Brody Malone was exactly the boost the men’s team needed after their successful performance at the Paris Olympics.

At the 2024 Olympic Games, Fred Richard, Brody Malone, and their teammates made history by earning the USA its first medal in men’s gymnastics in 16 years. Despite their remarkable achievement, the men’s team has often been overshadowed by their female counterparts in the sport. However, Biles sees the tide starting to turn, and she is thrilled about the change.

On October 3, during an interview with NBC Washington, the seven-time Olympic gold medalist shared her thoughts on how the Gold Over America Tour is helping elevate men’s gymnastics. “Bringing the guys on board was designed to show what men’s gymnastics has to offer,” Biles explained, reflecting on her decision to include male gymnasts in the tour. Despite initial concerns, the choice has paid off in a big way.

“We took a risk by bringing the guys on board,” Biles admitted, but she quickly emphasized how successful the decision has been. The results, she said, have been “absolutely amazing.” She spoke with enthusiasm about the crowds’ response to the male gymnasts, noting how the young fans cheer for their favorite athletes. Biles described the scene, smiling as she recalled hearing chants of “Ian! Ian!” and “Fredrick! Fredrick!” from the audience, reflecting just how well-received the male gymnasts have been by fans during the tour.

By including the men’s team on this national tour, Biles has helped shine a brighter spotlight on their talents, fostering greater recognition for men’s gymnastics in the U.S.
