Move over Werner: Spurs have a “scary” teen who could now start for the very first time -opinion

Tottenham Hotspur has shown significant improvement after a challenging period last month, where they dropped points against Leicester City and suffered consecutive defeats to Arsenal and Newcastle United.

However, they have since bounced back with four consecutive wins, including a notable 3-0 victory over Manchester United. Despite this, the team faces a challenge in replacing Son Heung-min on the left wing, with Timo Werner struggling to make an impact.

Werner, initially signed on loan in January, was expected to perform better in Ange Postecoglou’s system, similar to how other players like Kai Havertz have improved under new management.

However, Werner’s performances have been underwhelming, scoring only two goals and providing three assists in 14 games last season. Although his loan was extended for another season, his form this year has continued to disappoint, with no goals in six appearances. His recent performance against Coventry City in the League Cup, where he earned a poor rating, further highlights his struggles.

With Son injured, Werner was given a starting role against Manchester United but failed to impress, raising concerns about his continued inclusion in the team. As a result, there are calls for Postecoglou to give academy graduate Mikey Moore a chance. Despite being just 17 years old, Moore has shown great potential, scoring 20 goals and providing 15 assists in 33 youth-level matches. His brief appearance against Manchester United was promising, and many believe he could step up in Son’s absence, offering more promise than Werner has thus far.
