“Jamaicans don’t like when people talk sh*t” – When Usain Bolt advised Sha’Carri Richardson to focus on her training instead of trash-talking

Eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt once advised Sha’Carri Richardson to avoid trash-talking her competitors and to focus on her performance.

This guidance came after Richardson returned to competition following a ban during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Bolt, drawing on his vast experience in track and field, encouraged Richardson to work hard in practice and concentrate on competing rather than getting involved in unnecessary rivalries.

In his advice, Bolt emphasized that Jamaicans take pride in their achievements and don’t respond well to people who boast without backing it up. He suggested that Richardson let her results speak for her, saying, “Train hard, focus, and then talk about it.”

Sha’Carri Richardson, who recently won a silver medal in the Women’s 100m at the Paris Olympics, reflected on her growth as an athlete. She mentioned that being underestimated motivated her, and she drew inspiration from Wilma Rudolph, a childhood role model who overcame polio to become a champion. At just 24 years old, Richardson is one of the most promising athletes in women’s track, already holding two Olympic medals and two World Championship golds.
