After Patrick Mahomes’ Shattered Helmet, Chiefs Exact $1000 Revenge From Rivals

The Chiefs are chasing an unprecedented three-peat this season, and despite having some luck in getting favorable results, their dominance is unquestionable. This success has visibly frustrated opposing quarterbacks. In the first week, the Chiefs won after referees overturned a last-minute touchdown by Ravens’ tight end Isaiah Likely, leaving reigning Super Bowl champion Lamar Jackson visibly frustrated, slamming his helmet in frustration.

The trend of angry QBs continued the following week when the Chiefs narrowly defeated the Bengals. A controversial pass interference call in the final moments allowed Harrison Butker to score a game-winning field goal, prompting Bengals QB Joe Burrow to throw his helmet in anger. In week three, the Chiefs overcame a first-half deficit to defeat the Chargers, and Justin Herbert, their quarterback, also reacted by slamming his helmet.

However, one quarterback broke the streak of helmet-smashing frustration. Kirk Cousins of the Vikings, after losing a close 22-17 game to the Chiefs, opted for a more measured response, acknowledging his team’s missed opportunities and looking forward to improving.

Patrick Mahomes has had his own contentious history with helmets, notably breaking his helmet during a collision with Dolphins safety DeShon Elliot in last year’s Wild Card game. Despite the challenges, Mahomes led the Chiefs to victory. While opponents might be frustrated enough to break their helmets after playing the Chiefs, their dominant performance thus far in the season is undeni

able.
