On September 26th, Alexis Ohanian’s Athlos NYC event garnered significant attention, featuring top track and field athletes such as Marileidy Paulino, Brittany Brown, and Gabby Thomas. Ohanian’s daughter, Olympia, also shared the spotlight, participating in a fun run on the track. Ohanian shared his excitement by posting adorable moments from the event on Instagram, including a picture of Olympia smiling as she ran.
As a strong supporter of women’s sports, Paulino secured the 400-meter win, while Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the 1500 meters. Thomas and Brown faced off in the 200-meter race, with Brown coming out on top. Following the event, Ohanian posted glimpses from the day, including a heartfelt note about Olympia’s race, saying, “She runs NY. Olympia had such a good time she asked to run the track at the end, and I had to oblige…” Fans were quick to chime in, with one suggesting that Olympia should receive a Tiffany tiara. Ohanian responded by saying, “She gotta earn it.”
In addition to sharing moments from the event, Ohanian discovered a picture of Olympia posing with Gabby Thomas, which was originally posted by Olympic champion Sanya Richards-Ross. Excitedly, he re-shared the image on his Instagram story, expressing his surprise at only noticing it later. A few hours later, Thomas reposted Ohanian’s story on her social media.
Gabby Thomas is well-known for her strength in the 200-meter race but is also versatile across multiple distances, from the 100 to the 400 meters. At the Olympics, she was the only female athlete to compete in both relay events, securing gold in the 200-meter, 4×100-meter relay, and 4×400-meter relay within just five days.
Ohanian has previously mentioned discussing Olympia’s future in athletics with Serena Williams, noting that Williams emphasized the importance of Olympia being paid what she’s worth. Olympia’s interest in racing seems to be growing, and Ohanian happily supports her enthusiasm.
Ohanian also reflected on the high energy of the event, which offered significant prize money for the winners and runner-up. He shared how special it was that Olympia had such a great time. He posted a video of Olympia racing her cousin, with Ohanian starting the stopwatch for their race.
