‘Impossible to Play Tennis’- Carlos Alcaraz Vents Out Rare Anger at the Chair Umpire in Heated China Open Scenes

Controversy unfolded in Beijing during Carlos Alcaraz’s match against France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. Although Alcaraz won the first set 6-4, he expressed dissatisfaction to the chair umpire after receiving two serve clock warnings. Alcaraz argued, “I’m always very quick, I never get warnings. You gave me two in one set. It’s impossible to play tennis like this,” highlighting his frustration at the officiating.

This wasn’t the first instance of Alcaraz losing his temper in 2024. Earlier in the year, during the French Open final, he complained about the clay court conditions, stating, “This is unbelievable. It’s not a clay court, it’s a hard court. No clay there.” Similarly, during his R2 match at the Cincinnati Masters, he smashed his racquet in frustration and later apologized for his behavior.

Despite these emotional moments, Alcaraz managed to defeat Perricard 6-4, 6-4 in Beijing. He is expected to face either Miomir Kecmanovic or Tallon Griekspoor in the next round. Should he advance, potential challenges from Karen Khachanov, Francisco Cerundolo, Daniil Medvedev, or Gael Monfils could lie ahead. If successful, Alcaraz may face Jannik Sinner in the final.

Alcaraz has already qualified for the 2024 ATP Finals and is aiming to end his season on a high note.
