Deemed one of the fastest women on planet is surreal”- Gabby Thomas weighs in on expectations as she is set to run at Athlos NYC after Paris Olympics

Gabby Thomas, one of the fastest women on the planet after winning three gold medals at the Paris Olympics, recently discussed the high expectations placed on her. The American sprinter is set to make her first appearance on the track since her successful Paris campaign at Athlos NYC, a women-only track meet organized by Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams’ husband.

Thomas claimed gold in the women’s 200m, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m relay in Paris. She opted out of the Diamond League series held shortly after the Olympics, announcing that her final race of the 2024 season would take place at Athlos NYC. The inaugural event will be held on September 26, 2024, at Icahn Stadium, with the goal of revolutionizing the world of track and field.

Excited about her return to the track, Thomas shared her thoughts on competing again after the Olympics. She explained that during races, she enters a “flow state” where her body and mind perform instinctively due to her training. She also expressed that being considered one of the fastest women in the world is surreal and emphasized the significance of the Athlos event, noting that it gives female athletes a sense of ownership and involvement in its creation.

Other Olympic champions expected to compete at the event include Masai Russell and Faith Kipyegon. Thomas also spoke about the biggest challenge she’s faced as an Olympian, highlighting the importance of self-belief and confidence. She emphasized the significance of mental discipline and training, hoping to inspire younger athletes who look up to her.
