“Closest to Death”: Mikey Brennan’s Recent Wipeout at Shipstern Bluff Makes Surfer Overlook 2010 Back-Breaking Incident

Mikey Brennan narrowly avoided a serious accident while surfing at Shipstern Bluff, one of the most dangerous surfing spots in the world. Brennan, known for his surfing skill, was hit by a massive 8-meter (25-foot) wave that crashed onto him during what was supposed to be a fun outing. A bystander captured the terrifying moment when Brennan disappeared beneath the water for a few seconds before being rescued by a jet ski. Fortunately, he only suffered a minor concussion and a few bruises after being rushed to the hospital.

This recent incident reminded Brennan of a similar accident he had in 2010 when he was caught by another massive wave at Governor Island. Reflecting on the two events, Brennan noted that this recent wipeout brought him closest to death, as he was briefly unconscious. Despite the danger, Brennan remains committed to his love for the ocean, admitting that he knew he was pushing his limits against his fear.

Shipstern Bluff, notorious for its treacherous conditions, has been the site of numerous surfing accidents. The remote location is difficult to access and features powerful waves, often reaching heights of up to 10 meters. Surfers like Danny Griffiths and Nathan Florence have also had close calls here, with some suffering serious injuries, such as Dylan Longbottom, who ended up in the hospital with broken ribs and punctured lungs. Despite these dangers, Brennan is determined to return to the waves, proving his unwavering passion for the sport.
