“Bigger embarrassment than the White Sox” – Twins fans devastated as team drops further in playoff race

The Minnesota Twins are going through a difficult time, as their chances of making the playoffs are dwindling. Following back-to-back defeats against the Boston Red Sox in a doubleheader, the team has dropped to fourth place in the AL Central, leaving fans disappointed. The losses have pushed the Twins behind the Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals in the AL Wild Card standings.

In their second loss to the Red Sox, the Twins struggled significantly, conceding nine runs while only managing to score three. With just six games left in the season, they are now one game behind the third AL Wild Card spot and are struggling to find momentum. Fans expressed their frustrations on social media following the team’s poor performance.

One fan took to X (formerly Twitter) and compared the Twins’ performance to that of the Chicago White Sox, calling the Twins an “embarrassment.” Another fan sarcastically remarked about having to burn their playoff tickets, no longer believing the team could make it.

Other fans pointed out how close the Twins had been to taking the division lead, only to fall out of postseason contention within a month. Some also shifted blame to team ownership for the disappointing situation, with one fan calling out the shortsightedness of the ownership and predicting a payroll cut in the off-season. Another fan criticized manager Rocco Baldelli’s decisions, while others debated whether to blame ownership, poor hitting, pitching, or coaching for the team’s downfall.

On a more positive note, Twins rookie Zebby Matthews showed promise in the game against the Red Sox. Matthews pitched for four-plus innings, recording six strikeouts and giving up only two hits. Despite the team’s loss, it was one of Matthews’ stronger performances this season. The rookie currently holds a 1-3 record with a career ERA of 5.71. In his 34.2 innings pitched, he has accumulated 38 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.50, showing potential for the future.
