Roger Federer’s Reluctancy to Hold a Racquet Fades off as He Shares a Major Tennis Update With Wife Mirka and Kids

When it comes to sports careers, even the most illustrious ones eventually come to an end, much like that of Roger Federer. His career spanned nearly 24 years before concluding in September 2022 at the fifth edition of the Laver Cup. Since his retirement, Federer has been missed by the tennis world, and as the seventh edition of the Laver Cup approaches, he has provided some updates on his relationship with tennis.

Federer is excited about the upcoming Laver Cup in Berlin. A recent video showed John McEnroe asking Federer if he wanted to play a few shots, to which Federer hesitantly responded, “I would, I’d be ready to go… Just a few shots, you know.” Although he declined the offer, he later expressed in an interview that the court looked “ready to be played on,” adding, “I wish I was them.” Despite his retirement, Federer revealed he still enjoys playing tennis with his family and friends, mentioning, “I’ve actually played quite a bit, especially since I launched the Wilson racquet, the RF 01.”

Although Federer does not plan to return to professional tennis, the possibility of him participating in exhibition matches seems open. In fact, he expressed excitement over Team Europe’s chances at the Laver Cup and suggested he might return if his long-time rival Rafael Nadal asked him to join for a doubles match. However, since Nadal has withdrawn from this year’s tournament, this prospect is currently on hold.

Reflecting on his retirement, Federer stated he is “relieved” to be done with his competitive career. In a previous interview, he explained that his decision to retire stemmed from physical limitations, as his “knee and body” would no longer allow him to compete. Nonetheless, his love for tennis remains alive, as he still enjoys playing casually with his family.
