Emotional’ Carlos Alcaraz’s Weakest Trait Identified as Serena Williams’ Ex-Coach Reveals Real Reason Behind US Open Woes

In 2024, Carlos Alcaraz achieved an impressive milestone by winning two Grand Slam titles, bringing his total to four. However, as the year progresses, the young tennis star has come under increasing scrutiny from fans. Patrick Mouratoglou, the former coach of Serena Williams, recently shared his thoughts on Alcaraz’s situation, emphasizing the need for better management to handle the pressures of the sport.

In a video, Mouratoglou expressed concern over the emotional strain Alcaraz is experiencing and suggested that improved event scheduling could help manage mental exhaustion. Mouratoglou explained, “He put everything, mentally, emotionally, physically, and tennis-wise, into winning those titles because they mean so much to him. When it matters that much, it becomes emotionally draining. He was mentally exhausted.” Mouratoglou stressed that Alcaraz’s emotional state was contributing to his fatigue.

Alcaraz’s silver medal win at the Olympics in August followed his victories at the French Open in June and Wimbledon in July. However, his US Open campaign ended abruptly with a second-round loss to Botic van de Zandschulp, disappointing his fans.

Mouratoglou also compared Alcaraz’s struggles with cramping to the careers of tennis legends like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, pointing out that these players rarely experienced cramping during their matches. He noted, “He’s very emotional. We’ve seen him cramp many times already. If you look at Roger, Rafa, and Novak, have you ever seen them cramp in a match? Throughout their careers? Alcaraz has already cramped many times, and he’s only 20. He’s an emotional player.”

Alcaraz recently acknowledged the difficulties of maintaining his rigorous tennis schedule, speaking candidly about how the demands of the sport have taken both an emotional and physical toll on him. He admitted that the tight schedule had added to his exhaustion, making it challenging for him to perform at his best.

In his latest Davis Cup appearance, Alcaraz won his singles match against Tomas Machac after Machac retired early in the third set. However, instead of celebrating the victory, Alcaraz used his post-match interview to highlight the pressures he’s facing. “It’s a special feeling playing in Valencia at the Davis Cup. I missed it last year, and as I’ve said many times, the schedule in tennis is really tight,” Alcaraz admitted. At just 20 years old, he is already grappling with the balance between pushing for greatness and avoiding burnout.

His reflections serve as a reminder that even the brightest stars face challenges off the court. As he continues to navigate the demanding tennis circuit, finding a balance between competition, rest, and recovery will be crucial to preserving both his talent and his long-term well-being.

What do you think of Alcaraz’s ongoing struggle with the tennis schedule? Could it impact his future in the sport? Feel free to share your thoughts!
