Sha’Carri Richardson looks to end season on high note in two events at the Diamond League Final in Brussels

Sha’Carri Richardson is set to compete in both the women’s 100m and 200m races at her third Diamond League Final, aiming to complete the sprint double as she wraps up the season. Richardson, the current world champion, has had an outstanding and dominant season, highlighted by running the second-fastest 100m time ever at the US Track and Field trials.

Going into the 2024 Paris Olympics, Richardson remained undefeated in the 100m but faced disappointment when she missed out on winning the 100m gold, which went to Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred. However, she secured victory with the U.S. 4x100m relay team, taking home an Olympic title in that event. Despite the success, the 24-year-old was determined to improve and has refocused her efforts with the goal of finishing the season strong and preparing to defend her world title next year.

Richardson’s season finale will take place in Brussels, where she will first compete in the women’s 100m on Friday, September 13. The race will include a rematch against Olympic champion Julien Alfred, whom Richardson defeated in their first race following the Paris Olympics at the Zurich meet. Other competitors include Olympic athletes like Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita from Great Britain, as well as Cote d’Ivoire’s Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith.

The following day, Richardson will race in the 200m at the Diamond League Final. In this event, she will once again face Neita, Ta Lou-Smith, and U.S. Olympic bronze medalist Brittany Brown. This marks the conclusion of her season, as she aims to finish on a high note before shifting her focus to next year’s challenges.
