Simone Biles loves being called the G.O.A.T. because “it makes people happy and just pisses people off

The eleven-time Olympian revealed that both admirers and detractors react differently to the superlative, but she wouldn’t have it any other way.

The 27-year-old Biles said to Fallon, “I think it’s funny to play off, obviously all of my followers and people have welcomed, loved, and supported me throughout my journey.” Not to mention the detractors, who are continuously saying things like, ‘Stop calling her the G.O.A.T. She isn’t the best of the best. It seems to make people happy at first, but ultimately it only irritates them.

The gymnast wore a brown jumpsuit with a neckline that displayed her diamond-encrusted G.O.A.T. necklace during her appearance on the late-night talk program on Wednesday, September 4. She initially unveiled this piece after winning gold in the all-around final at the Paris Olympics.

Following the tournament, Biles gave a speech on wearing the 546-diamond piece, which was created by Janet Heller Fine Jewellery, and what it meant to be regarded as the best of all time.

She told reporters at the time, including PEOPLE, “At the end of the day, it is weird that I’m in the conversation of best of all time athletes, because I still think I’m Simone Biles from Spring, Texas, that loves to flip.”

The most decorated female gymnast in history discussed the glittery aspect of her nickname on Fallon Wednesday, but expressed her hope that her legacy will surpass her achievements.

“I mean, I think that’s what I would want it to be throughout gymnastics as long as I’m motivating the next generation, having fun, and just making sure that it’s not just about winning but still putting a good foot forward even when things don’t go your way,”‎ Biles stated
