“I’ve Been Attacked”: Angel Reese Opens Up About Objectification and Online Hate

Following the April 2022–2023 NCAA season, in which Angel Reese led the Louisiana State University Lady Tigers to a championship triumph, the public became aware of the beautiful side of the former Bayou Barbie when she released her renowned bikini photograph in May. After being captured on camera in Los Angeles by renowned photographer Yu Tsai, Reese quickly gained notoriety for her stylish choices and baller talents. Although the Maryland native at first attracted great attention, she soon had to deal with the unfavourable aspects of celebrity when her detractors started to criticise her, which finally helped her come to a realisation.

During the first episode of her own podcast, Unapologetically Reese, which debuted on Thursday, the seventh overall 2024 WNBA draft pick talked extensively about her experiences feeling objectified. Many of her female fans found it to be enlightening.

That is what I’m expressing. For example, what does it mean? I’m a beautiful girl, just like I’m a beautiful woman, but I’m not sure what it means. I have been sharing photos of myself in bikinis. I work hard to maintain my lovely body. Furthermore, I need to be free to upload a photo of myself in my bikini without fear of being judged. where I’m requesting or wanting to be allowed to have a moment when I’m acting impolitely or I’m. I am the one who enjoys it. Reese said on the Unapologetically Reese podcast, “It’s and it’s the same it’s it’s been going for a very really really long time now and now it’s just like okay like find something new.”

How Do You Feel About It?

Angel Reese fearlessly takes on objectification and hate speech on the internet.

Ever since making her photo cover debut, Reese has been sharing pictures of herself on Instagram wearing the newest clothes. The former LSU student has stated that she hopes to transition from balling to modelling after graduation. Many young girls look up to Reese because they regard her as the leader of the group both on and off the court. The rookie Chicago Sky player is known for her dawg attitude when playing basketball, but she also frequently sports high-end clothing and accessories off the court that further accentuate her swagger.

She had admitted to “having that canine mentality but still being the girly lady on the court” and to getting her “nails and hair and whatnot” done. The former NCAA champion acknowledged in an interview with People’s magazine that “off the court I model, I take pictures, I like to dress up and have fun—and then on the court, I’m about my business,” underscoring the pride in leading a double life. Maybe her ardent personality is what turns off her detractors.

She frequently becomes embroiled in arguments with Caitlin Clark’s ardent supporters. Reese is undoubtedly in a bad environment as a result of this. However, Reese’s fans also don’t pass up the chance to make fun of Clark, and as a result, a number of remarks are made on social media that undoubtedly have an affect on her mental health—a fact that Reese herself has previously disclosed.

Following a defeat to the Iowa Hawkeyes, Angel Reese loses it all.

What do you think about the following: Why do female athletes like Angel Reese get so much hatred online? Is it merely misogynistic?

For Angel Reese, the NCAA 2023–24 season wasn’t the best. First of all, her mother and the mother of her LSU teammate Flau’jae Johsnon got into a furious argument. After that, many claimed that Reese’s decision to skip a few games in November was brought on by her unfavourable attitude towards her teammates or her low GPA. Reese remained silent for the most part of the season, but when her team fell to the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Elite Eight game in April, she snapped.

Reese disclosed that she was burdened by her detractors during the news conference held after the game. She thought back on her difficult journey during the 2023–24 season and the effects it had had on her. “I’ve witnessed a lot. I have endured several attacks, threats of death, sexualisation, threats, and many other experiences, but I have always remained resilient,” Reese had said.

Now that she has surfaced once more to discuss her problems, maybe her detractors will begin to understand her. Perhaps in due course, Reese will be able to fulfil her aspirations of modelling without worrying about criticism.
