Gymnastics Community Left Heartbroken as Team USA Therapy Dog Beacon’s Owner Shares a Sad Update: “Love and Prayers”

Beacon has been with Team USA Gymnastics since February 2023, when he joined a therapy dog team. Jill Geere, chief communications and marketing officer, stated that the golden retriever quickly became the “star of the show.” Unfortunately, the four-year-old, four-legged Team USA athlete is fighting for his life in the emergency room.

“Beacon was admitted to an emergency pet hospital yesterday after some symptoms he was experiencing (stiffness, laboured breathing, and later fever) did not respond to treatments (anti-inflammatory medicines, cold laser therapy),” said Beacon’s official Instagram handle. The stunning announcement caught the community by surprise. Aside from fans, athletes including Hezly Rivera and Khoi Young, as well as official handles from USA Gymnastics and Inside Gymnastics Magazine, flocked to the comments area.

Hezly Rivera, Team USA’s golden girl, spoke for the entire community with her statement. “We adore you, Beacon,” wrote the 16-year-old team gold medal winner. Unfortunately, the cause of the unexpected sickness remains unknown. However, other gymnastics aficionados preferred to focus on the good conclusion. “Love and prayers are going your way, Beacon! Sending heaps of hugs and kisses. “You got this!” wrote an Instagram user.
