Calling Kansas City Chiefs ‘Underdogs’, Modern Family Star Shares Patrick Mahomes’ Ambitions to Step Above Tom Brady

Patrick Mahomes is the new standard for up-and-coming quarterbacks now that Tom Brady has been eliminated from NFL contention. If Mahomes wins his third consecutive Super Bowl, he will outperform Tom Brady and many other great quarterbacks in the sport’s history. That’s because Mahomes wants to establish his own legacy rather than being bound to TB12 comparisons.

Rob Riggle, an actor/comedian and Kansas City Chiefs fan, spoke on The Rich Eisen Show on the team’s chances of winning three consecutive championships and Mahomes’ legacy. After 5 decades, the Chiefs’ success will overshadow TB12’s well-deserved “GOAT” moniker.

The chat prompted Riggle to recollect the “Triple Lindy” event from the movie “Back to School,” where Rodney Dangerfield’s character Thornton Melon performed the most impossible dive of all time.”See, all this GOAT rhetoric about Brady is absolutely merited; I got it. Patrick wants to distance himself from it, in my opinion,” Riggle stated.

Because the “3-peat has never been done,” Riggle thinks that Mahomes will channel his inner “competitor.” If Mahomes achieves the Super Bowl hat trick, “it’ll be one of the greatest sport feats in history.” But the mind begs the question of whether Mahomes is truly better than Brady or not.

Tom Brady won the Super Bowl in the 2003 and 2004 seasons, but he was stopped short of achieving the “greatest sports feat in history” by the Denver Broncos. Coming back to the present era, some stats indicate that Patrick Mahomes has been performing like a champ ever since he got the starting job at the Kansas City Chiefs.

If we compare their first 6 seasons in the league, we’ll find out that Patrick Mahomes has an upper hand over Tom Brady. The table below will give you a better idea of how they compare to each other.

Patrick Mahomes First 6 years starting Tom Brady
72-22 Regular Season Record 70-24
15-3 Playoff Record 12-2
4 AFC Titles 3
3 Super Bowl Rings 3
260/70 TD/INT 167/87
103.7 QB Rating 88.4

So, there’s a clear separation between both players, though a minuscule amount. But coming back to the conversation between Rich Eisen and Rob Riggle, the actor/comedian had another “Triple Lindy” take to offer.

When Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs achieve the impossible!

The Chiefs achieving a 3-peat is the only important story in the streets of the NFL right now. Moreover, they have a tough schedule that will make their hattrick chances even slimmer. But if they manage to pull this off, the Kansas City Chiefs’ achievements would draw out a beautiful “underdog story.”

“I believe in Patrick, I believe in the team, I believe in Reid, I believe in the organization all the way, top to botm. So, if anybody can do it, I really believe these guys have the ability to do it and it will be incredibly special. It will be in a weird way, again statistically speaking, you know, an underdog story,” Riggle added later.

The NFL Kickoff will be a revenge game for the Baltimore Ravens and if the Chiefs lose the season opener, they might face difficulties in the future. Many other factors like Hollywood Brown’s injury and Rashee Rice’s legal troubles are still unknown variables in this 3-peat equation. However, there’s nothing wrong with a bit of optimism.
