NASCAR Rumour: Hendrick Motorsports Driver Soon to Be Fired as Playoffs Stir Up the Silly Season.

“It’s a tough industry,” Hendrick Motorsports CEO Jeff Gordon said back in July. Among his team’s excellent Cup Series drivers, Alex Bowman stands out the most. Bowman has struggled to keep up with his high-achieving peers in recent years. Despite breaking an 80-race winless streak on the Chicago Circuit, his future with HMS remains uncertain.

Alex Bowman may not be meeting the high expectations of HMS’s demanding business. Following his victory in Chicago and a runner-up performance at Pocono, the No. 48 driver began a miserable streak of consecutive mediocre finishes. As the postseason approaches, rumours circulate about Bowman’s potential move.

Alex Bowman went to a new garage, analysts suggest.

Alex Bowman, in his ninth full season with Mr. H, has had a long and tough journey at Hendrick Motorsports. His adventure began in 2017 and culminated with his maiden victory at Chicagoland Speedway in 2019. Bowman’s breakout performance was in 2021, when he won four dazzling trophies. However, tragic circumstances forced him to miss five races in 2022 due to a concussion. 2023 saw his back issue, which kept him out of three-point races. Coming into this year, Bowman had engine trouble in New Hampshire, which ended his day on the 144th lap.

The glory of attempting to rush back to Victory Lane in a rain-soaked Chicago Street Race was short-lived. After Pocono, Alex Bowman finished outside the top 15 in five races, reigniting rumours about his future at HMS. After all, being a member of NASCAR’s most successful Cup team requires a high level of performance. And, just in time, NASCAR insider Brett Griffin sparked the latest rumour: “I’d say Alex Bowman is out, and he may be gone for more than just the playoffs if he’s out in the first round.”

Is Alex Bowman a weak link at Hendrick Motorsports, or does he need more time to establish himself?

Alex Bowman’s contract with HMS expires in 2026, but journalist Austin Konenski believes he will eventually be in the hot seat. Kosinski tweeted, “I’ve been sceptical of the whole thing, but it’s becoming louder. I definitely think the seats are warm. The 2026 season might potentially be a better option? “Very smooth NASCAR silly season content!”

This rumour persists despite Bowman’s constant rejection of expulsion suggestions while praising his club executives and long-time sponsor Ally. Despite this, Alex Bowman may just keep his position. But his weakness is in points, where other HMS drivers shine.

HMS drivers have been in high demand throughout 2024. Kyle Larson leads that group—the possibly best racer in the United States right now, attempting the Double in May in addition to capturing four outstanding wins. He also competed for the regular season championship against Tyler Reddick at Darlington, but lost by one point.

Chase Elliott isn’t far behind, having sandwiched some steady finishes alongside his Texas victory in a delectable sandwich of triumph. William Byron has three wins this season, rivalling Denny Hamlin in points and presently ranked fourth.

So you can see where Alex Bowman falls behind in this group: the points struggle. He is now ranked 12th, since he has struggled to complete consistently. Even after Chicago’s victory, crew chief Blake Harris noticed Bowman’s weakness, which the playoff system blotted out. “I believe the speed has been there. We chatted, and we had an engine failure in Loudon, as well as one here in Chicago last year. As we discuss those issues, he says, “Man, right now we’re in this point struggle, and I’m thinking, we’re one race away from that not mattering.”

Clearly, it takes a lot to openly proclaim oneself as a Hendrick driver. With Alex Bowman’s future apparently at jeopardy, where do you think the driver will go next?
