Greg Norman plots revenge on Tiger Woods and co., as LIV Golf-PGA Tour deal faces bleak future.

The evident LIV Golf-PGA Tour conflict is the fundamental reason for the never-ending excitement in the golf world. While merger talks are still ongoing, brace yourself for an unexpected confrontation between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf in 2025.

Greg Norman has taken a brave step by scheduling LIV events within the same weeks as some of the PGA Tour’s major tournaments. Yes, you read it correctly. One can image the struggle this decision will spark, especially given the current viewing instability.

How did Tiger Woods find himself on the LIV Golf schedule?

As you can understand, this move is viewed as a direct challenge to the PGA Tour. Greg Norman believes that LIV Golf is elevating the sport by attracting a new and younger audience. It is rightfully aiming to live up to its motto, Golf But Louder. However, the reality check is unpleasant, to say the least. Remember the dramatic playoff involving LIV superstars Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka, which failed to outperform a pickleball game in terms of television ratings? So much for taking the sport to a new level.

LIV Golf has revealed its 2025 schedule, and Flushing It on X noticed something out of the ordinary. LIV’s 2025 schedule begins with four consecutive international tournaments, although it is hardly the most intriguing aspect. “It’s worth noting that the early LIV schedule all clashes with PGA Tour Signature Events. LIV’s biggest tournament in Adelaide competes against Tiger Woods’ event at Riviera,” according to the golf page.

Tiger Woods’ Genesis Invitational is one of several PGA Tour tournaments that will face direct competition from LIV Golf in 2025. The event will take place on February 13, and Greg Norman has agreed to hold the LIV Golf Adelaide event the same week. The Grange Golf Club in South Australia hosted a thrilling 2023 and 2024 LIV Golf Adelaide event, which drew an incredible crowd of over 94,000 fans in its second edition, making it the largest LIV Golf Tournament.

That’s not all; the Saudi International, sponsored by LIV Golf, is set to take place later this year and will directly compete with Tiger Woods’ Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas. The fierce fight for the best between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour is far from done. It feels like the game is just getting started, especially given how stagnant things have been following the $3 billion merger.

The PGA Tour’s future is uncertain because to continuing merger talks with LIV Golf. Commissioner Jay Monahan’s last update on the discussions with PIF has left fans with more concerns than answers. It raises questions about the merger’s future. Despite signing a framework agreement in June 2023, the deadline for a finalised accord has passed, and negotiations continue with no end in sight. Monahan’s cryptic comments have fuelled speculation that he, too, is unaware of the deal’s specifics.

The PGA Tour and LIV Golf League are scheduled to continue separately until 2025, but the lack of progress raises worries about the Tour’s long-term survival. “Look at where we are right now; we’re having regular conversations, and we have the appropriate individuals at the table with the correct mindset. I see that all of these interactions on both sides foster optimism about the future and our ability to collaborate. At the same time, these conversations are complex and will take time. They have taken time, and they will continue to take time,” Monahan stated ahead of the 2024 Tour Championship.

With top golfers split between the two leagues, the sport’s future seems gloomy if a merger is not agreed. What are your opinions on the LIV 2025 schedule?
