What is it that women are incapable of? Like in other spheres of life, women have long broken through gender norms and established new standards in athletics and other activities. Women demonstrated that they are not afraid to compete head-to-head with their male counterparts in the just finished 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. However, Carissa Moore, the reigning gold medallist surfer, may have lost focus and crashed out of this year’s Olympics in the quarterfinals for a fairly feminine reason.
One of the most treasured life events for women worldwide is becoming a mother. However, as long as a female athlete wants to or is able to manage it, she is free to continue in her career while pregnant. However, Moore, the five-time world champion, found it to be a formidable ascent.
The joy that enabled Carissa Moore to go past her Olympic setback
Recently, the first-ever female Olympic surfer made an appearance for an interview with Surfer. In the September 3 YouTube video interview, Moore discussed the events that transpired in Tahiti during the Olympic surfing competitions in 2024. She added that she wasn’t totally ready to compete during her first trimester of pregnancy. The Hawaiian surfer noted that there are “…so many things that are occurring to your body in the first trimester,” adding that she decided to surf at the annual event after being assured that it would not have any negative effects on the health of the unborn child.

Moore smiled as she described how her second Olympics was even more demanding than her first, describing it as “like being sick and weary and emotional like just wanting to cry at random periods.” She did, however, also admit that she was aware of all the risks involved in the competition and that her pregnancy had even assisted her in overcoming the disappointment of not being able to defend her championship in Teahupo’o.
Moore said that the entire experience had given her a clear awareness of her own values, saying, “Yes, this sucked, and I gave it everything I had.” However, have a peek at this lovely next project I get to dedicate my energies to. On August 22, Carissa and her spouse made the announcement of their pregnancy on social media. But before she said goodbye, she had to take one last trip.

Moore had previously declared earlier this year that she will take an undefined sabbatical from professional surfing. Moore also promised that she would compete at the Pipe Pro and the Tahiti Pro, while her supporters furiously scratched their heads, trying to figure out why, considering that she is currently at the peak of her talents. Moore told USA Today in July that “for everybody watching, certainly, that’s a scary wave and perhaps it motivates other people out there to overcome their fears.” In addition, she was ready to participate in the Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy, which is being held on the opposite side of the world right now. Moore was unable to create much of a stir there either.
She announced on Instagram that being pregnant had given her a whole new perspective on the world. “Being pregnant for the first time, I was a little worried about the swell, all the water moving, and my ability to keep up and perform in these conditions. Moore stated on Instagram, “My body, perspective, and approach have changed a lot in the previous month, but the waves were really pumping and I still wanted to give it a go.”
