“Missing Cecile (Landi)”: Simone Biles’ Family Member Shares Special Tribute for Long-Time Coach

Without the Landis, who treated her like family rather than simply coaches, Simone Biles would not be the renowned G.O.A.T. that she is now. Simone has been encouraged to achieve greater things by Cecile Canqueteau-Landi and Laurent Landi since they started mentoring her in 2017. However, as they say, all good things come to an end, and it appears that Simone and Cecile will soon be splitting up. It’s a classic instance of one door closing and another opening as Cecile takes on a new role at the University of Georgia as co-head coach.

Ryan Roberts will temporarily take over as head coach while Cecile and Roberts work to advance the Bulldogs to the next level. This comes after the departure of former head coach Courtney Kupets Carter.Seeing Cecile go through this change is like witnessing a family member embark on a significant journey away from home, even for Simone’s supporters. It goes without saying that the gymnast and her loved ones now view this shift as quite personal. Given that Cecile has had a profoundly transformational effect on their life, how will they manage this change? As they turn the page, it’s a moment of mixed emotions. But it looks like Cecile will be missed far more by Biles’s family member than simply Biles.

Sammi Biles, the sister-in-law of Simone Biles and wife of Ron Biles II, posted a touching Instagram story on August 26. In honour of Cecile Canqueteau-Landi, who has coached multiple Olympians and world champions, she shared a picture of herself donning a World Champions Centre (WCC) jacket. Top gymnasts from all across the nation have been drawn to Simone’s parents’ former coaching club, the World Champions Centre, because of the Landis.

But Sammi also included a cute picture of herself with Cecile and her daughter, Ronni, also lovingly referred to as Baby Biles, in the tale. Ronni is just 21 months old and has already expressed interest in gymnastics.

Sammi wrote, “Missing Cecile, so wearing WCC jacket in the workplace today,” as the photo’s description, implying that she may be doing more office work while considering how much Cecile has impacted their lives. “Your presence is already missed here,” she continued. Georgia is incredibly lucky to have you. With heart emoticons, I said, “Go Dawgs!” Given Simone and Cecile’s tight relationship, it is obvious that this change will be felt deeply. However, what is Simone Biles’ current emotional state?

Simone Biles’ appreciation of Cecile’s enduring influence

Twenty years ago, Cecile and Laurent Landi bravely left France for the United States, travelling to Norman, Oklahoma, even though they did not speak English. Eventually, they made their way to Dallas, where they became members of the elite gymnastics club WOGA. Stars like Madison Kocian and Alyssa Baumann were coached by them there. Although they had intended to open their own facility, they intervened in 2017 when Biles was seeking for new coaches. She began coaching her after that.

Simone Biles’s return marked a turning point in Cecile’s coaching career. Simone endured mental issues during the 2021 Tokyo Games, but Cecile supported her through it all, helping her win four medals in Paris. With Cecile and Laurent’s help, Simone—who was already at the top of her game in 2016—kept setting new records.

They even assisted her in honing moves like the floor “Biles II” and the Yurchenko double pike. Simone sent a heartfelt farewell on Instagram on August 24th, announcing the end of their partnership: “End of an era 🥹🤞🏾🤍.” It’s more like “see you later” than “goodbye.” It’s evident that Simone is celebrating their amazing journey together and offering her approval in addition to simply saying goodbye.
