Giving Up Holger Rune Casts Novak Djokovic in an Unwelcome Light as a Journalist Raises Health Concerns

Novak Djokovic, the tennis virtuoso from Serbia, is in the news, but not for the typical reasons.

A startling occurrence casts doubt on the Serb’s future just before the American Grand Slam, when all eyes are on him.

The latest information was revealed by a source, as the focus shifted from strategy to conjecture. Although the news was shocking, one issue remains unanswered in the tennis community: Will Djokovic compete in the US Open?

Djokovic didn’t wear a knee brace during his practice sessions leading up to the US Open. But Djokovic’s use of a compression sleeve occurred during their amicable encounter at Arthur Ashe Stadium against Juan Martin Del Potro. Not to mention how he hobbled around the Olympics in Paris. The Serbian was obviously in discomfort during his quarterfinal match against Stefanos Tsitsipas, and he was nervous about the upcoming rounds.

With the intention of getting back to his regular routine after the exhibition match, Djokovic scheduled a training session with Rune, but the latter was nowhere to be seen. A Danish Journalist claims that Djokovic had to miss his US Open practice session with Holger Rune due to a medical issue. A Djokovic fan wrote, “The Rune camp was then advised that Djokovic would have to receive treatment to see if he could continue his training.”

Up to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Djokovic’s 2024 season was uneventful. The Serb has struggled with injuries ever since his run at Roland Garros in 2024. Due to a medial meniscus tear in his right knee, he was forced to retire from the French Grand Slam. Days before the Wimbledon, Djokovic underwent surgery in Paris, but he still entered the competition and advanced to the finals. Although the former world number one might have impressed everyone with his bravery throughout Wimbledon, he may be in for some significant problems before his run at Flushing Meadows.

The Serbian is waiting for his first-round encounter at the US Open against Radu Albot of Moldova. Even though Djokovic was the overwhelming favourite, his injury worries cast doubt on his US Open campaign. However, what exactly set off people’s worries regarding his impending Grand Slam participation?

Before the US Open, Novak Djokovic skipped his practice session with Rune.

It was scheduled that Djokovic and Holger Rune would rehearse at Arthur Ashe Stadium. A large crowd arrived at the stadium in the afternoon to watch Nole work on his closing plans for the Grand Slam. However, Djokovic’s practice session was disrupted by an unforeseen occurrence. Despite getting therapy, he was unable to continue training because of some discomfort.

Conversely, Rune waited for the Serbian legend in the stadium for thirty minutes. The Danish ATP player just signed autographs, took pictures, and exited the arena when he saw no trace of Djokovic. The misunderstanding arose from the fact that Djokovic was nowhere to be seen, despite the fact that his team’s bags were at the Arthur Ashe Court.

According to TV2, Djokovic experienced this problem following a brief training session with Rune, and the Danish player was informed an hour later that Nole would not be practicing. According to Express Magazine, Rune stated, “It’s reported that the Norwegian star and Djokovic trained at a very high level for one hour from midday to 1pm local time in New York.”

The fear of an injury for Novak Djokovic has caused his supporters anxiety. This season, Djokovic advanced to the quarterfinals of the French Open, the Australian Open semifinals, and the Wimbledon finals, but he was unable to win a Grand Slam. Since he is nearing the end of his career, his supporters value even the smallest involvement. With his latest injury concerns, Djokovic has raised a serious question in the minds of his fans: Will the Serbian player eventually retire?
