Today, Jamaican sprinter and Noah Lyles’ girlfriend, Junelle Bromfield, broke her silence following weeks of being the target of online trolling. She posted a picture on her Instagram on August 23 and wrote a heartfelt statement.”I’ve been the target of cyberbullying for weeks.” Bromfield has been fighting everything, like a lioness who is injured but does not speak. Internet users have denigrated her skin tone, athletic prowess, love interest, and everything else. But now, she made the decision to use her experience as motivation for others.
“Your mouth is too large, your brow is too high, your hair is dry, and I was raised to believe that black people are not beautiful.”Bromfield acknowledged the feedback she had received about her appearance. But she always pretended to be brave. Even so, she received criticism in the form of remarks like “you’re pretty for a black girl.”Still, she made the decision to set an example today. “I could go off raving but I’m just here to tell all the girls/women on my profile that you’re gorgeous no matter your hue, shape, or size,” she wrote in part of her statement.
As soon as she wrote this, a number of American athletes weighed in to support Bromfield. “Baby you are and will always be an example to all little girls feeling this exact way,” said Noah Lyles. WE know you are one of the most gorgeous woman on the track, but what’s even more important is how much you shine as a person and how you light up a room,” said triple gold medallist Gabby Thomas, reassuring Bromfield. Athletes from Jamaica also expressed their support for Bromfield, not just the Americans. Yohan Blake gave Bromfield some wise counsel. “You are wonderful just the way you are,” he wrote. Permit them to speak! It’s simple for individuals to express hate because most of them despise themselves. Keep your distance from what they have to say about you.

The majority of the well-wishers in Bromfield praised her for calling out the trolls. Encourage other ladies while doing this. However, Noah Lyles has arguably been her staunchest advocate. Despite all of these ups and downs, he never hesitated to express gratitude for her courageous efforts.

For Bromfield, the last several days have probably been very difficult. An emotional atmosphere resulted from her anger at the Paris Olympics and the already noticeable animosity she was receiving after Noah Lyles said he had been receiving “drama” from the Jamaican camps for years. Bromfield did not leave her impact on the Paris stage, whereas Lyles returned with two medals. Social media then disparaged her athletic abilities. Following her 4 x 400 m mixed relay, supporters proposed that Jamaica “replace Bromfield.”Not even her 400-meter run could win over the audience.
But Noah Lyles was standing close beside her. He confided in X that he was immensely pleased with her. He gave her a lot of credit for enduring so much in life that he was not able to. And he restated how great an athlete she was. Beyond that, she is a medallist from two Olympics, a multiple world championship winner, a survivor, and she has been representing Jamaica internationally since she was eight years old, according to Lyles.
Lyles also liked her ability to handle the hate. He claimed that she had been insulted and treated disrespectfully by people in her own nation. He understood that her confidence in God is what keeps her going, knowing that God will always find a way, even though most people have never met her, heard her name, known her beliefs, or seen her smile. He explained, “That’s why God keeps blessing her.” And it’s clear now that a lot of athletes are supporting Junelle.
