There’s always more that can be done”- Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone weighs in on pushing limits after after breaking the world record for the 6th time

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone revealed how, despite her success, she continued to push herself to get better. At the Olympics in Paris, the American made an impression by breaking her personal 400-meter hurdle record.

She smashed her personal record five times, this time at the US Olympic Trials where she set a new world record of 50,65 seconds. She went on to compete in her third Olympics. McLaughlin-Levrone finished her Olympic career in Paris with a gold in the 4x400m relay and a time of 50.37 seconds in the 400m hurdles.

Since the 2019 World Championships, the 25-year-old has not lost a 400-meter hurdles competition. She explained that her improvement has come from believing that she can always become better.

“I believe that there is always something more that can be done. There’s always room for improvement, she remarked, as cited by Olympics.com. “I enjoy pushing myself to try to breach those boundaries and obstacles and attempting to discover out what those are.”

The 25-year-old was had to withdraw from several races in 2023 due to injuries, including the World Athletics Championships. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone focused on the hurdles and failed in the 400 meters upon arriving in Paris. She claimed that unlike in flat races, the barriers on the track spur her to improve.

“The open 400 consists solely of a sprint. Despite the obstacles, I can still think of something and must work on it. Some things only serve to draw your attention away from the fact that you’re running a 400. And I believe that’s the reason I enjoy the challenges,” she said. (via Olympics.com)

The LA Olympics in 2028, according to Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, would be an honour to represent Team USA in.

After Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone’s Olympic success, she has no distinct plans in foresight but will be honored to represent Team USA at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

“I mean, I don’t know what the future holds. don’t know what’s in the cards for me, but bringing the Games back to the United States is going to be special in and of itself. And so, whether it’s the 400 hurdles or any other event, it just would be an honour to compete for USA,” she said. (via Olympics.com)

The American became the first woman to break four records in 13 months (2021-22) and the first 400m hurdler to run below 52s and 51s.
