In addition to securing Djokovic’s 25th Major championship, a victory at this year’s US Open would mark his 100th career victory. Right now, only two players have won more titles than him.

With 109 titles from 164 finals, Jimmy Connors leads the field. Roger Federer is next with 103 titles from 157 finals. The 37-year-old would have won his 100th title from his 141st final if he were to pull off this feat in New York. Considering his level of fitness, he will undoubtedly want to surpass Connors’ record in the future.

#3: Make your first defence of the US Open

At both the US Open and the Australian Open, Djokovic has advanced to ten finals. Though he was able to maintain his undefeated record in championship rounds in Australia, he was not as fortunate in New York.

The Serbian has won four titles here, however he has never repeated as the venue’s champion. On two occasions, he almost successfully defended his title. After winning the US Open for the first time in 2011, he advanced to the championship match the following year but lost to Andy Murray.

In 2015, Djokovic secured his second US Open championship. The following year, he advanced to the top match as part of his title defence. But in his match against Stan Wawrinka, he lost in four sets.

It is simple to win a title, but it takes more work to defend one. He will be keen to defend his championship here after successfully doing so at the Australian Open and Wimbledon on several occasions.

#4 – Become the oldest Grand Slam champion in singles

Djokovic would become the oldest player to win a Major title in singles tennis if he prevails at the US Open this year. This title is presently held by Ken Rosewall, who won the Australian Open in 1972 at the age of 37 years and two months.

On Sunday, September 8, the men’s singles final match will occur. If the Serb holds the winner’s trophy that day, he will be slightly older than 37 years and three months.

#5 – Match the record of five US Open championships held by Pete Sampras, Jimmy Connors, and Roger Federer.

With five titles, Federer, Connors, and Sampras are the current Open Era record holders for the most titles at the US Open. With seven titles apiece, Richard Sears, William Larned, and Bill Tilden own the overall record.

When Connors won his fifth title in New York in 1983, he became the first player in the Open Era to attain that milestone. It was also the last Major championship he held. When Sampras won his fifth championship there in 2002, he tied the record. It also turned out to be Sampras’s final professional match on the tour.

After winning the US Open five times in a row in 2008, Federer signed up with their organisation. In 2009, he was vying for a record-tying sixth consecutive triumph in New York, but Juan Martin del Potro defeated him in the championship match. Djokovic now has the opportunity to become one of these great individuals. With four US Open titles under his belt, he is currently tied with Rafael Nadal, another adversary.
