Fresh Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari blow in Adrian Newey ‘very unlikely’ verdict

Guenther Steiner recognises the attraction of Adrian Newey’s potential move to Aston Martin amidst growing rumours that he is going that way, but believes Ferrari is a “very unlikely” choice.

The 25 world titles won by Formula 1 design wizard Newey will make him a free agent in the early months of 2025 after he formally leaves Red Bull. At first, it appeared that Newey was going to Ferrari, but reputable Italian journal Autosprint would later report that, in reality, he had struck a $100 million contract to join Aston Martin.

Adrian Newey to Ferrari seems “extremely unlikely,” according to Guenther Steiner.

Although he cannot predict Newey’s future with confidence, former Haas team manager Steiner thinks a transfer to Ferrari is “extremely unlikely.” However, based on his comments about that project, Steiner might see Newey joining Aston Martin, which is owned by billionaire Lawrence Stroll.

Adrian is a brilliant designer of Formula One cars, Steiner said to talkSPORT.

“What do I know? I don’t think he’s going to Ferrari. I believe he is unsure about his own future plans.

It’s hardly a given that he will attend Ferrari just because everyone assumed he would. It’s obvious that he’s surveying his surroundings for his next move.

Is it possible that he will make this decision because he is unwilling to travel to Italy or because he has an irresistible offer from Aston Martin?

It’s wonderful if everyone wants you, so you don’t have to rush into a decision. However, I’m not sure if he has made up his mind. I therefore have no idea where he’s headed.

But at this point, I believe it is highly improbable that he will attend Ferrari. Adrian wouldn’t fit in, but they are already assembling a team, so they have a strategy in place. Perhaps promises were made to others.

“I simply don’t think he’s going there, but I’m not saying he’s not going.

“I believe he’s taking a break, and it’s clear that Aston Martin is making significant financial investments in their F1 team and hiring a large number of people. They recently announced that Andy Cowell, the former head of Mercedes’ engine division, will be joining the team to succeed Martin Whitmarsh, so a lot is going on there, and perhaps he wants to join the team that makes the biggest commitments?”

Adrian, though, has nothing to prove to anyone. He simply asks himself, “Where is the greatest for me?” Where does the best future for me lie?

“I’m pretty confident Adrian will be working on the 2026 car if he joins Aston Martin, since it could be too late for him to start on the 2025 car anyhow.”

New chassis and power unit regulations will be implemented for Formula 1 in 2026. However, Lewis Hamilton will make his big transfer to Ferrari the following year, and he has previously stated that he wants to finally collaborate with Newey in Formula 1. Hamilton won’t get his wish if Steiner’s theories about Newey to Ferrari turn out to be accurate.

When asked how much he would like Newey to join him at Ferrari by the media ahead of the Miami Grand Prix, Hamilton said, “Very lot.”

“I think Adrian would be a fantastic addition since he has such a wonderful history, track record, and has done an excellent job throughout his career engaging with teams and using his experience.”

“I believe they already have a fantastic group. They’re already moving forward with great strides. This year, their vehicle is faster. Indeed, it would be an honour to collaborate with him.

“He would unquestionably be at the top of my list of people I would love to work with.”

After Charles Leclerc switches to Ferrari for the F1 2025 season, Hamilton will be his partner.
