Youngsters get chance to be noticed

Savenaca Muamua, vice president of the Fiji Secondary School Rugby Union, thinks that participants in the Vodafone Deans competition are lucky to have an easy route to the next level of the game.

As the tournament draws to a close, scouts are expected to attend the quarterfinals to identify the rugby talent of the future. The excitement is palpable.

Muamua emphasises that these young athletes have a great opportunity because of the scouts’ presence.

“The path for rugby players is demonstrated by the way the players have progressed from Secondary School Rugby, Deans competition, and all the way up to Flying Fijians. The road that FRU has outlined for all rugby players is currently being enjoyed by the athletes.

He continues, saying it will be a satisfying result for the families who have given up for their children’s athletic aspirations if one or two athletes are selected for the Fiji Rugby Union High Performance or the Drua Academy.

He also highlights the players’ and their families’ possible professional advantages, emphasising that rugby may offer a secure and fulfilling career.
