Alcaraz has been in phenomenal form recently, clinching the Channel Slam – the French Open and Wimbledon, and took this form into the Olympics where he competed in singles as well as doubles alongside his idol Nadal. The Spaniard made it to the finals in singles and quarterfinals in doubles

Both Djokovic and Nadal took to Instagram to send warm messages to Alcaraz on his Olympic run and stated that he would be winning the gold medal soon.

“You probably have 20 more Olympics ahead of you 😆. Your gold will come,” Djokovic wrote.

“I know that today is a difficult day, value a medal that is very important for the whole country and you’ll see, in time, that for you too,” Nadal wrote.

Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their delight at Carlos Alcaraz receiving exclusive messages from two big legends. One fan joked saying Djokovic and Nadal were fighting for the young Spaniard’s custody.

Another fan implied that the World No. 3 was the GOAT of the younger generation of players and the exclusive messages from the two legends proved it.

During his on-court interview, Carlos Alcaraz expressed his disappointment at losing the gold medal to Novak Djokovic but admitted that the Serb was the deserving winner. The 21-year-old was in tears after a heartbreaking loss against the Serb.

“It’s painful to lose the way I lost this match. I had my chances to probably be up in the match. I couldn’t take it. Novak was playing great. He deserves this. In the tough moments he increased his level. He played unbelievable shots.. an unbelievable game.”

However, the Spaniard was proud of the performance he put up and mentioned how playing for his nation meant everything to him.

“I’m a bit disappointed but honestly I’ll leave the court with my head really really high. I gave everything I had. Fighting for Spain was everything to me. I’m proud with the way I played today.”

Carlos Alcaraz is slated to kick off his North American hardcourt swing at the Cincinnati Masters where he lost to Djokovic in the final last year in a three-hour and 49-minute three-set thriller.
