For a considerable amount of time, the San Francisco 49ers and All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk have been unable to reach a contract agreement. Aiyuk has made it known that he would not play for the 49ers without a new contract since the team’s loss to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII. San Francisco had exercised his fifth-year option, which will bring him $14.1 million this season, prior to the previous campaign.
Aiyuk’s total earnings throughout his first four seasons with the 49ers were $12.5 million.
The Minnesota Vikings offering Justin Jefferson $35 million a year for the following four seasons is largely responsible for the wide receiver market’s explosion this summer. Even though Aiyuk isn’t asking for as much money as Jefferson, he is hoping for a salary of about $30 million year, which is what the Detroit Lions granted Amon-Ra St. Brown.
Wide Receiver Brandon Aiyuk and the San Francisco 49ers are not close to signing a contract.
Inglewood, California, USA; January 9, 2022; In the second half at SoFi Stadium, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk (11), of the San Francisco 49ers, runs the ball against the Los Angeles Rams.
As previously stated, Aiyuk stated early in the offseason that he would not return to the 49ers until he signed a new contract. Before the 2024 NFL Draft, he and the organisation had such a bad relationship that many believed he would be traded.
Obviously, he wasn’t. At the time, general manager John Lynch expressed his belief that the parties could reach a mutual accord.
That hasn’t taken place.
Tensions between Aiyuk and the front office have only become worse in the weeks and months that have passed. Aiyuk even mentioned in an interview earlier this summer that he saw himself as a player for the Pittsburgh Steelers or Washington Commanders in 2024. He even informed Jayden Daniels, the rookie quarterback for the Commanders, that the 49ers had informed him that they no longer desired him.
Still, there was no exchange. Aiyuk arrived for training camp in order to avoid being penalised, but he isn’t taking part in any drills.
Aiyuk is reportedly interested in a different team than the New England Patriots or Cleveland Browns, despite rumours that these two teams are the front-runners to get the All-Pro wide receiver through trade.
