Even during the 2024 Olympic Games, LeBron James never hesitates to lend his support to other sportsmen of colour. The Lakers star felt compelled to defend Olympic gymnast Simone Biles in the case of James when it appeared that she had made fun of Donald Trump on X.
Since 1952, Biles has been the oldest gymnast to win the all-around title. On Thursday, she proved once and for all that she is the greatest of all time by hitting the Yurchenko double pike, an incredibly difficult vault. Shortly after her incredible performance, Biles went on X, not forgetting to express how much she cherished her “black job.”
She didn’t specifically mention Trump in her post, but it’s obvious that she’s making a derogatory allusion to him. Trump, the 45th President of the United States, was a divisive figure while in office and continues to be so today.
He recently participated in an interview with the National Association of Black Journalists as part of his reelection campaign. Among other noteworthy remarks, he brought up the issue of illegal immigration entering the country to steal “black employment” there.
The African American community took offence at the comment, and many people nationwide—including Simone Biles—decided to bring it up while the Olympics are still going on. She wants everyone to know that she will be casting a blue ballot in November.
We already know where four-time NBA champion LeBron stands. Love him or hate him, James will always act in the best interests of the people, and as one of the world’s most successful and well-liked athletes, he has significant sway over public opinion.
The 39-year-old basketball player is involved in a variety of endeavours outside of the sport, such as those in business, entertainment, and culture. He hasn’t indicated any desire in entering politics, but that hasn’t stopped him from voicing his opinions on a range of political issues.
James has been adamantly opposed to Trump since the 2016 election. In addition to supporting Democratic candidates and more liberal ideas, he has already made several public statements criticising the outgoing President.
He claimed in 2020 that Trump was impeding national advancement and that the NBA would be better off without his backing. In retaliation, Trump has spoken harshly about LeBron and even referred to him as the biggest b**ch in sports.
LeBron is obviously no buddy of Donald Trump, and it appears that the majority of the NBA community at this time feels the same way. Numerous basketball legends, including Gregg Popovich, Steve Kerr, James, and Stephen Curry, have denounced the former President and everyone who has sided with him.
LeBron’s primary objective right now is to assist the United States in winning the gold medal this summer, and he’s well on his way to doing that following a flawless tournament debut. Nonetheless, anticipate James to become more involved in the election when it gets underway this autumn.
James, who praised Biles for her viral post today, at the very least indicated that he will be speaking up more in favour of the black community.
