“I’m going to give them what they want” – Carlos Alcaraz makes huge promise to Spanish fans ahead of Paris Olympics gold medal match

Carlos Alcaraz is keen to dazzle the Spanish crowd in the men’s singles tennis final of the 2024 Paris Olympics. To get to the summit match, the Spaniard won in straight sets over Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semifinals. Alcaraz, who has been playing well lately, entered the Olympics having won the Wimbledon and French Open consecutively.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The 21-year-old brought this form to Paris after defeating Hady Habib of Lebanon to start his campaign with a major victory. In the rounds that followed, he eliminated Roman Safiullin and Tallon Griekspoor. The Spaniard then faced Tommy Paul in a difficult quarterfinal encounter, but prevailed in a fierce two-setter.

 

In the semifinals, Alcaraz played against Auger-Aliassime of Canada. In an hour and fifteen minutes, the second seed easily defeated the Canadian, 6-1, 6-1, to advance to the Olympic final in Paris, where he will compete for the gold medal.

 

 

 

 

Carlos Alcaraz gave his Spanish supporters a great promise when he spoke with Alex Corretja of Eurosport, stating that he is committed to giving it his best to take home the gold.

 

“I promise the Spanish fans who watch me on TV that I will put on a show in the championship game and that I will give them what they want—the gold,” Alcaraz stated.

Carlos Alcaraz has become the youngest player to reach the men’s singles final at the Olympics since Robert LeRoy in 1904, and he could become the youngest man to win gold if he comes out on top on August 4 (Sunday).

When told about this feat during an on-court interview, the Spaniard joked that he would act as if he didn’t hear that, and spoke about the honor of playing in the final.

“I’m gonna act like I didn’t hear that. Honestly it’s gonna a be a really special moment for me in my life and career. I’ll try to enjoy this moment. It’s gonna be difficult for sure, but it’s gonna be special. I’ll try to focus on myself. I’ll try not to heat all the fans and people saying I’m gonna win. I just wanna give my 100% and my best tennis. Hopefully, I’ll reach my goal to get the gold.
