Gibbons finds something bigger than rugby

The individual appointed to oversee the fitness of the Fiji 7s team prior to the Olympic Games expresses gratitude for the chance to work with them.

They made significant progress in their physical preparations for Paris, according to San Diego, California resident Ian Gibbons.

The 45-year-old, who arrived four months ago, considers it an invaluable opportunity to be a part of the Fiji 7s Olympic voyage.

Gibbons has coached the Saracens, USA men, Seattle Seawolves, and Japan in strength and conditioning.

In an interview with FBC Sports, he claims that Fiji is about more than just rugby.

“Working with larger countries might cause one to become lost in the system; to use a business term, it can become almost corporate. However, here, things are extremely family-oriented, and Team Fiji really helped to highlight that.”

He collaborated with coach Osea Kolinisau, who is originally from the United Kingdom, to try and set a particular level for the team.

Sunday morning will see the Fiji 7s team arrive in the nation; as a reward for capturing silver in Paris, each player will receive $20,000.
