Red Bull handed overwhelming verdict after Perez decision

The jury has returned on Red Bull’s unexpected choice to keep Sergio Perez on the team until the 2024 Formula One season.

The Milton Keynes-based team’s decision to bench the 34-year-old was largely expected as it attempts to hold off McLaren’s rapid ascent in the constructors’ championship battle.

Over the last eight rounds, the Mexican driver has only managed to gain 28 points, while teammate Max Verstappen has taken 141.

As a result, Red Bull’s lead in points has dropped from 115 to only 42 for the Woking team. By the conclusion of the year, McLaren will have surpassed Red Bull in the constructors’ championship thanks to the combined efforts of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

Red Bull was anticipated to make a move, inserting Daniel Ricciardo or Liam Lawson in front of Max Verstappen for the balance of the campaign.

The team, however, chose not to take such action, which is something that most Formula One fans disagree with.

The majority of 6,637 respondents think Red Bull made a mistake, with just slightly over 25% saying that maintaining Perez for the remainder of the year is the wisest course of action.
