After taking home gold in the women’s gymnastics competition at the Olympics, Simone Biles took a jab at her old teammate from the United States, MyKayla Skinner.
After leading the US to a commanding win in the team gymnastics final on Tuesday, Biles is now the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history with eight medals.
The United States team, which also comprised Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles, Sunisa Lee, and Hezly Rivera, faced criticism in the lead-up to the 2021 Olympics in Paris from Skinner, the silver medallist in the vault final in Tokyo.
In a YouTube video, Skinner stated, “Aside from Simone, I feel that the talent and the depth just isn’t what it used to be.”
Obviously, a lot of girls don’t put in as much work. Simply said, the girls lack a strong work
Many girls put in less effort at work. It’s challenging due to SafeSport as well. It’s great that coaches are unable to criticise their students, but in order to advance in gymnastics, one must occasionally exhibit aggression and intensity.
But Biles appeared to hit back at Skinner’s comments in her celebration post on Instagram after winning her first gold in Paris as she posted a photo of her team with their medals alongside the caption: ‘Lack of talent, lazy, Olympic champions.’
Skinner has since issued an for her comment, claiming that she was comparing the current Olympic team to the 2021 Olympic team she competed with that was guided by the controversial coaching regime of gymnastics coach Marta Karolyi.
‘Upon reflection, I was comparing the ‘Marta Era’ to the current era,’ she posted on Instagram.
‘I am coming to terms that I have not fully dealt with the emotional and verbal abuse I endured under Marta that perhaps led to my hurtful comments. I take full responsibility for what I said and deeply apologise.’
“I want to formally apologise to Team USA and to our gymnastic community for my comments during my recent YouTube episodes of the gymnastics Olympic trials,” Skinner said in a statement announcing the apology.

“I didn’t mean to demean or upset any of the athletes or minimise their efforts,” the athlete said.
I applaud each and every one of you; your diligence and hard work have paid off.
For me, the most crucial thing is that the sport I love keeps moving in the direction of healing and guarantees a good atmosphere for everyone.
I’m hoping for the best for you in Paris. I’ll be here to support everyone! Bravo, USA!
