Simone Biles and Team USA hit the mat for women’s gymnastics team final

Simone Biles and her American teammates in women’s gymnastics were back on the mat a few days after a near-accident fright, hoping to win their first medal at the Olympics in Paris.

 

The women’s artistic gymnastics team final, which includes Biles and her American teammates Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Sunisa Lee, takes place at Bercy Arena on Tuesday. Biles is scheduled to compete in the floor exercise, vault, uneven bars, and balancing beam events. The United States of America is a strong favourite to win the Tuesday final after winning the silver medal in the Tokyo team competition.

 

Despite limping due to a calf injury, Biles, 27, made her eagerly awaited comeback last weekend in the qualifying rounds and dominated. Former French Olympian Cecille Landi, who coaches women’s gymnastics, told reporters following the qualifying round that she had strained her calf a few weeks prior and was doing better.

 

“Never in her mind,” the coach observed, indicating that Biles had no intention of withdrawing from the competition.

With an outstanding score of 172.296 at the end of Sunday’s qualification round, Team USA secured the top spot going into the all-around final.

 

Biles is competing in her third Olympics, her first since she had to withdraw from many events at the Tokyo Olympics due to a condition known as the “twisties,” which causes gymnasts to lose their sense of location in the air.

 

She might surpass the record for the most Olympic gold medals won by an American gymnast in Paris. Anton Heida now holds the record with five gold medals. Medals: Biles has four gold ones. She only needs one more medal, though, to tie Shannon Miller for the most medals won by an American gymnast at the Olympics. Miller and Biles have both won seven medals at the Olympics.
