I’m accountable: Fuli

Raijieli Daveua, the captain of Team Fiji Women’s 7s at the Paris Olympics, may have taken a bullet today by standing up for Saiasi Fuli, but the Fijiana mentor claims that the coach will always be held responsible.

The Fijiana Olympic team has had a terrible experience, and Fuli is aware that the supporters are dissatisfied since they had high hopes for a team that placed third in Tokyo 2020.

Fuli concurs with Daveua that the players are ready and encouraged to perform, but he adds he will bear responsibility for the team’s dismal performance. Fuli is a former national halfback.

Fuli responds that the Fiji Rugby Union will choose his future when asked if he will resign following the Olympics.

“You know, I can’t decide anything. I’ve already explained to the girls my intention and my plan. I have other things to do in life, especially for my family, and right now my focus is to finish the tournament. My intention is just to coach them for four years, one cycle that is the Olympics.”

The national coach continues, “With the best assistance from FRU, they were well-prepared and didn’t anticipate to be where they are at this Olympics.

Tomorrow at 2:30 am, the Fijiana will take on South Africa in the 11th and 12th playoffs.
