Fijiana’s string of defeats continues

Fijiana lost to Brazil 28–22 in the women’s 9–12 position, extending their losing streak in the Olympics.

Just thirty seconds later, Gabriela Lima gave Brazil the lead, and moments after, Vani Buleki scored immediately after the kickoff.

Playing with great urgency, the Fijiana scored their second goal in the corner, where Ana Maria Naimasi found her way after Reapi Uluinasau put her up.

Brazil’s Thalia Costa, a speedster, ran 60 meters to score after a defensive lapse.

Following Captain Raijieli Daveua’s dismissal for a professional foul, Brazil scored their third converted try and Lima’s second, giving the South Americans a 21-10 advantage at the break.

After the break, Laisana Likuceva of Fiji scored the opening goal after Brazil made a lineout error.

Lima was subsequently pursued by Likuceva to Fiji’s tryline, whereupon the Fijiana utilised the opportunity to send Naimasi running out for her second.

Brazil, however, had the final say thanks to a winning try from Yasmim Soares.
