Simone Biles will lead Team USA in the Paris qualifying round.

USA Gymnastics announced on Saturday, July 27, that gymnastics sensation Simone Biles would anchor three of the four apparatus on Sunday, July 28, as Team USA begins its Olympic Games Paris 2024 competition during the women’s qualifying round.

The Tokyo 2020 team silver medallist Jordan Chiles, the newcomer Hezly Rivera, the current Olympic all-around champion Suni Lee, and lastly Biles will lead off for the Americans on the balancing beam.

The sequence for the floor exercise and vault will be Lee, Chiles, Biles, and Tokyo floor champion Jade Carey. All save Lee are anticipated to complete two vaults in order to advance to the medal round.

Lee will serve as the anchor as Team USA concludes their preliminary match on the uneven bars. Biles, Chiles, and Rivera will set her up.

A disastrous day on Sunday means there’s no chance of winning a medal, making qualifying the only phase of the Olympic competition in Paris without any medals on the line. In many respects, qualifying is the most significant and crucial day of the campaign.

Eight of the top qualifying teams will compete in the team final, and 24 women will compete in the individual all-around final. The top eight finishers advance to the apparatus finals. There can only be two finalists per nation for each individual final.

Biles and Team USA have performed well in podium and supplementary training in France as they attempt to win back the team gold they won in Rio 2016 and London 2012.

At the most recent U.S. Olympic trials, Biles declared, “This is absolutely our redemption tour.” “I think there’s more that everyone of us can provide. We have a great deal of pressure to perform well and demonstrate our superior athleticism, maturity, intelligence, and consistency.”

Out of five qualifying subdivisions, the United States is in the second one. The tournament is set to start at 11:40 a.m. Paris time.
