LIV Golf pro goes after the haters: “People are laughing, doubting, criticising…”

Anthony Kim responded to his detractors by sharing his thoughts before to joining the LIV Golf League breakaway.

 

The 39-year-old revealed in an interview with the Fairway to Heaven podcast that he considered three choices before signing what is expected to be a lucrative contract.

 

I was thinking about not playing again after speaking with LIV and the PGA Tour a several times,” Kim admitted to the radio.

 

However, my spouse exclaimed, ‘Whoever will have this chance again?’

 

“It’s no secret that I benefited financially from both sides.

 

“Whether I participated in the PGA or LIV, I had and continue to have various sponsorship options.

 

“In terms of sponsorship, I’ve declined more offers than I’ve taken because I didn’t think they aligned with my goals for my life.

 

“Were there offers to sponsor me, put logos on me, and give me money that would change my life?

 

“Yeah, but I haven’t accepted those because I want my followers to know that Anthony genuinely believes in whatever it is that I support.”

 

Kim made it clear that he doesn’t harbour any animosity towards the North American circuit.

 

He had the opportunity to rejoin the Tour and participate in a few events by virtue of his previous victory.

 

He would have surely received a few invitations from sponsors.

 

“The PGA Tour was incredible for a number of reasons in my life,” he remarked.

 

“Playing golf, my major ambition was to retire my mother.”

 

Addressing the haters

Kim’s results since joining LIV Golf do not make for pretty reading.

After eight events, he is yet to finish higher than 46th. But he’s not bothered and is playing the long game.

“My dream is to watch my daughter run onto that green and me hold her,” he said.

“And I’m going to do everything that I can to do that.

“If it means spending 18 hours on the course every day, I’m going to do that.

“At least [I am] give myself the opportunity because on the other side, people are doubting, laughing, criticising.

“I love it, that gives me more purpose and more energy to do what I’m doing.

“When I don’t think I can win, I won’t be playing. I’m not here to just get a platform, I’m here to be competitive.”
