Carlos Alcaraz successfully defended his Wimbledon title by beating Novak Djokovic in the final. The Spaniard thus won his second successive Grand Slam title, having previously won the French Open.
The finals saw Alcaraz seizing complete control of the game as he dominated the first two sets, winning with scores of 6-2, 6-2. The Spaniard had three Championship points in the final set but he squandered them, allowing Djokovic to break him. However, he was not to be denied and eventually won 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4).
Speaking after the match, Alcaraz said that while he played well, Djokovic was not at his best and “made many mistakes”.
“This is a great feeling. It was a great match on my part and obviously, Novak didn’t play his best on the first two sets, made many mistakes, and I took full advantage of it,” the Spaniard said.
Alcaraz also said that it was a great feeling for him to win the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year.
“It’s a great feeling even to think that I have won Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same year, something few players have done before. It’s amazing I try to realize that I have won Wimbledon twice and to feel that it’s the same sensation as last year,” the Spaniard added.
Carlos Alcaraz has had an incredible 2024 season so far, with 33 wins out of 39 matches so far. Apart from his Wimbledon and French Open triumphs, the 21-year-old also won the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

Novak Djokovic has now been defeated for the second consecutive time in a Wimbledon final by Alcaraz, having previously lost to him in a thrilling title clash in 2023.
The Serb lauded the Spaniard in his post-match press conference, saying that the latter was better than him in every department throughout the match.
“I’ve never seen him serve that way. 136mph. I’ve never seen him serve that fast. He must’ve had a really good serving practice day yesterday. He really outplayed me, He was better than me in every aspect of the game,” Djokovic said.
The Serb now has 23 wins out of 30 matches so far in 2024 and is yet to win a title since triumphing at the 2023 ATP Finals. He is next scheduled to compete at the Paris Olympics.
