Rafael Nadal backs Carlos Alcaraz to beat Novak Djokovic in Wimbledon final

As was expected, Rafael Nadal is cheering for Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final against Novak Djokovic. Sunday is a massive day for the Spanish sport, with Alcaraz chasing the Wimbledon title defense and the footballers the Euro 2024 crown versus England.

Nadal is preparing for the ATP 250 event in Bastad, facing Leo Brog in the first round in his last test ahead of the Olympic Games in Paris. However, the legend will watch the Wimbledon final between his compatriot and the Olympic doubles partner and his greatest rival, Novak Djokovic.

Alcaraz advanced into his second Wimbledon final in a row after ousting world no. 5 Daniil Medvedev 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in two hours and 55 minutes. The Russian made a strong start and built a 5-2 lead in the first set.

The young erased it and remained competitive despite losing the tie break 7-1.

Carlos took charge from set number two, holding the strings of the duel in his hands and remaining on the title course. Alcaraz dropped serve three times, two in the opener. He turned 38% of the return points into six breaks, overpowering Medvedev from the second set and setting the title clash against Djokovic.

Carlos played aggressive tennis and landed 52 winners and 35 unforced errors, competing at a high level and reaching his fourth Major final at 21. Alcaraz is yet to lose a Major final, winning the US Open in 2022, Wimbledon last year and Roland Garros a couple of weeks ago.

The Spaniard is trying to become the youngest winner of a ‘Channel Slam,’ alongside other records and achievements if he beats the Serb.

Alcaraz and Djokovic are battling in the Wimbledon final for the second straight year. The young gun overpowered the veteran 1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 in four hours and 42 minutes, becoming the third-youngest Wimbledon champion.

Two great rivals gave their best to keep a high level despite windy and challenging conditions. They offered each other 34 break points and converted ten, five for each. Alcaraz produced a decisive break in the opening stages of the final set, serving well and bringing the victory home.

Carlos played aggressive tennis and fired 60 winners, while Novak added 50 unforced errors. The Serb started strongly and claimed the opener in just over half an hour.

Djokovic had a set point in the tie break of the second set, wasting it with a loose backhand and losing ground. Carlos dominated set number three, moving closer to the finish line before losing the fourth set, allowing Novak to force a decider. The Spaniard made a fresh start and secured an early break, keeping it and moving over the top with a hold at 5-4.
