Battle for 13 heats up for Fijiana 7s

The Fijiana 7s players have finally taken the first stage towards qualifying for the Olympic team.

But the work is not done yet, since just 13 players are heading to the Games Village, and two of the 15 travelling players will need to stay in Paris as injury replacements.

This implies that the 13 will compete in the Olympics, and Saiasi Fuli, the coach of the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s, will have further seven days to choose the final squad.

According to Fuli, there won’t be any love lost during the players’ competition for spots next week.

“We’re taking 15, the same for the men’s division, since that’s the perfect moment for us to choose the top 13 athletes to represent us in the Games Village.”

Fiji will train for two more days and have a workout before departing for France on Monday.

On the 29th of this month, at 3.30am, in Stade de France, the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s will play their first match against Canada.
